The Neuter Clinic was founded twenty years ago and has been run by the highly talented veterinarian Dr. Esther Pieters, since the 1st of June 2025 , when she took over the clinic.
In order to rehome a pet, it must be neutered by law. However, charities and organizations were unable to pay for this neutering, which led to the establishment of Neuter Clinic.
Veterinary students and recent graduates from around the world have received very little practical surgical training and are unable to perform neutering procedures.
The money the students pay is used to cover the costs of anesthetics, consumables, suture material,
equipment maintenance, travel expenses for cat catchers, etc.
This allows charities, shelters, and organizations to have their animals spayed or neutered for free, enabling them to find new homes.
Without this help from newly graduated veterinarians and students,
most volunteers would be unable to find new homes for these animals.
FROM THE YEAR 2025 ONWARDS
From the 1st of June 2025 Neuter Clinic is receiving students again, both qualified and non qalified groups will be catered for, placements tend to go extremely quickly, so book early to avoid disappointment.

CAN A VETERINARY STUDENT ATTEND NEUTER CLINIC ?
Dr Peters will accept both qualified and unqualified students and will continue to support European students. Almost all universities worldwide support the programme and recognise the time spent here as part of their external courses/EMS, with the exception of British universities.
She can accept students from the United Kingdom, but advises you to check with your university whether this can be counted as EMS. Unfortunately, the programme cannot be free of charge, as the charities do not have the funds for anaesthetics, materials, equipment, etc. The money paid therefore serves to cover these costs.
You perform the operation from start to finish, and we only intervene when necessary. We use the same high-quality anaesthetics as in a private practice. You will find that one or two weeks with us is equivalent to several months in a private practice. We offer a relaxed, non-commercial, supportive environment, without time pressure. You will be amazed at how this boosts your confidence.
ABOUT NEUTER CLINIC
Veterinary surgeons have attended from the UK, USA, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria and Portugal.
Despite their qualifications some of the highest academic achievers doubted their own surgical potential, due to the fear of operating on live animals. Each delegate soon overcame this within the non-commercial, supportive, surgical environment and even the most nervous found that they were capable of becoming competent surgeons.
In ten years of the programme several thousand animals have been neutered or received surgical procedures, which has then allowed them to be re-homed throughout Europe.
By providing the opportunity to perform surgery in a more relaxed and supportive environment with stray/abandoned animals, vets rapidly develop their surgical skills and after one to two weeks they gain the equivalent experience of several months in normal practice.
